Challenge:
Dixon Mitchell Investment Counsel, which manages institutional assets for several First Nations clients, commissioned internationally renowned artist Lawrence Paul Yuxwelptun (with the help of Vancouver’s Macauley & Co. Fine Art) to create a work that casts a light on our country’s past while commemorating the inaugural National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Strategic Approach:
Maverick suggested written materials to go out to correspond with important days in the First Nations community in relation to truth and reconciliation, such as Orange Shirt day as well as the anniversary of the discovery in Kamloops.
Solution:
Through partnered announcements coordinated by Maverick along with Heffel Auctions, Dixon Mitchell and a series of interviews, interest was peaked by the time the painting went up for auction in both Vancouver and Toronto. Lawrence Paul Yuxwelptun did a nationally televised interview to speak to the work of art and its story when the painting arrived in Toronto.
Results:
The painting was sold for $157,250 with all funds being raised for The Orange Shirt Society and The Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
